1. Irina, in ultima perioada ai lansat foarte multa muzica.
Interviu KADEBOSTANY:
1. We want to know you better, so please tell us please what drew you in the music industry.
I grew up in France. I started when I was 14 with djing. Playing from techno to hip hop/turntablism then moved on quickly to composition as soon as I could buy some studio equipment.
I was quite fascinated the first time my dad took me to a radio broadcast studio when I was 7-8. He used to be a broadcast technician in pirate radios in France in the 90’s. I still remember the first time I saw a Technics sl 1200 Mk2 turntable. It became my religion and the studio was my church. Seeing passionate people, Mc’s, DJ’s, music aholics all united around the same passion made me understand that this is something I would like to dedicate my whole life to.
Then I created this concept of the Republic of Kadebostany I wanted to have the benefits of collaborating with a large group of people without the inherent problems of a “band”. I believe that in art, it has to be a leader. I don’t consider myself the best but I have this ability to gather people around my ideas. I’m grateful to have the chance to collaborate with so many great artists.
2. We know that you have a lot of concerts. How would you go about energizing a tired audience?
It’s not only a concert, it’s a show. Our fans now that and expect something extraordinary. I gathered the best musicians and vocalists. It’s a big team on the road. I have chosen to use video projection and used a special stage decoration depicting a kind of a parliament who set us apart from a normal band on stage and allows to hypnotise the audience and make them reach the stars with us, nights after nights .
The travel is guaranteed, you should not miss the opportunity to attend a Kadebostany DRAMA show!
3. Who are inspired by? (Music, art etc)
In general I’m fascinated by artists that have a strong conceptual approach and that explore many fields. Artists like Mathew Herbert, Damon Albarn, Roxy music, Frank Zappa. Choreographer Ohad Naharin. Filmamakers Charlie Chaplin. I like when the artistic proposition has different layers of understanding, it leaves some space to your own interpretation.
4. Can you tell us more about your collaboration with Irina Rimes?
My life is filled with collaborations, sometimes quite unexpected, and I’m always looking for new ones. Irina is one of those sacred moments when I create magic with very talented artist. I’m feeling grateful to have those opportunities in my life. All the credit for the voice melody and lyrics goes to Irina on this one!
I came up with the composition wanting to have this Sofia Coppola’s “Virgin Suicide “ feeling. Hence the out of tune rhodes keyboard and the overall pastel blurry feeling. I wanted to have a feeling of nostalgia without sounding too retro. I was dancing like mad scientist in my studio when I completed this song. I have goosebumps thinking about that.
5. How you and Irina meet?
I discovered her via turkish Artist Mahmut Orhan. I contacted her and asked her for a collaboration. She knew Kadebostany and said she wanted to do it as well. The rest is history.
6. Please explain your creative process.
For this DRAMA album I used my house/recording studio in Switzerland to invite all kinds of artists . It was a kind of social experiment . Imagine inviting people that you don’t know to your house and stay for 3-4 days together creating something . This weird thing was part of the creative process. I have a vision of the songs I wanna create and I write 100% of the music then I collaborate with different singers, propose ideas and theme for the lyrics and depending on the songs give freedom to them for vocal parts. But there is no fixed rules. I sometimes come up with vocal parts myself, call up more songwriters from different countries depending on the task. The ultimate goal is to create amazing songs that give you goosebumps.
7. Is there a hidden meaning in Letters from Her?
I always like to give the audience the freedom to interpret the meaning of a song the way they want. For sure as a creative person I know what I wanna make you feel when composing songs but once it’s released worldwide it is not only yours anymore. Best feeling is when people re-appropriate the songs for themselves.
